Yellow Bird and GTV to coproduce international drama Occupied, a gripping political thriller series created by Jo Nesbø for NRK and Arte
Zodiak Media's Yellow Bird (The Millennium Trilogy, Wallander), and GTV (Blood on the Docks, Highlander, Jury Duty) will coproduce a new gripping thriller series entitled Occupied, a 10 x 45' series for Norwegian NRK and French-German channel Arte, based on an original idea by world-acclaimed crime writer Jo Nesbø.
Occupied is a project originally developed by Yellow Bird and Jo Nesbø. Acclaimed Norwegian writer Harald Rosenloew Eeg is also a writer on the project.
Set in a not so distant future where Russia has staged a "silk-glove" invasion of Norway to officially secure the oil import for the rest of the world, Occupied is a multi-layered political suspense thriller. The series looks at what happens to a nation under such an invasion. Will people rebel or accept their new fate? Occupied is about loyalty. Loyalty to oneself, to one's family and to one's country.
Created by Jo Nesbø (Headhunters, The Snowman, the Harry Hole series), this ambitious international coproduction led by Yellow Bird's Marianne Gray has director Erik Skoldbjaerg (Insomnia, Prozac Nation, Pioneer) on board to set up the concept and to direct the first two episodes.
The series will be shot in English, Norwegian and Russian. Shooting should start early 2014 for a 2015 transmission on NRK, Arte and other Nordic channels soon to be announced.
Zodiak Rights will handle international sales for the series.
