Zodiak Rights announces a new raft of deals for its drama slate
Zodiak Rights, the distribution arm of Zodiak Media, today announced during its Mipcom drama event it has secured a raft of new agreements for its original drama series slate, as well as presales for award-winning drama series Murder, and international coproduction, Occupied.
Braquo travels the world and cuts Russian remake deal
2012 International Emmy Award Braquo series, produced by Capa Drama for Canal+, hits new territories and sees its third season launched this Mipcom acquired by Australia's Foxtel. In Germany, ServusTV (Red Bull Media House) acquired the exclusive free TV rights and will premiere the first two seasons of the highest-rated crime series ever on Canal+. Additionally, the DVD/VOD rights were bought by Studio Hamburg, who plans a DVD release by the end of 2013/early 2014.
Meanwhile in Russia, leading national broadcaster Channel One snatched both first seasons as well as the remake rights to the series. The deal represents Channel One's first acquisition of a French drama scripted format ever. Channel One plans to start shooting the Russian version of the rogue cops by end of 2014. Zodiak Rights will retain the worldwide distribution rights of the new series, with the exception of Russia, CIS and the Baltics.
Braquo has already sold in over 80 territories. Recent sales of the series include pay TV Amedia (Russia), the US (Hulu), UK (Fox), Italy (Fox Intl. Channel, RAI Cinema), Australia (Showtime), Denmark (DR TV), Israël (Hot), Brazil (GloboSat), Scandinavia (Scanbox), Canada (eOne), Belgium and Luxembourg (RTBF), Czech Republic (Ceska Televise), Poland (Canal+), Bulgaria (Viasat), Switzerland (RSI), Turkey (Sinema TV), France and French speaking territories (Jimmy).
Braquo follows a squad of Paris cops who exist in the blurred boundaries at the very edge of the law, often using violence and intimidation to get the job done.
The Returned (aka Rebound), nominated for Best Drama Series International Emmy Award, sell in Germany and Latin America
The Returned, the 2013 International Emmy nominated series produced by Haut et Court for Canal+, has just been acquired by HBO Latin America. In addition, Studio Canal Germany picked up all distribution rights for the compelling 8 x 60' drama and will exploit the series in German-speaking Europe. In the UK, Pan Macmillan acquired the rights to develop two books taking and developing storylines from the sensation series, with the first novel published next autumn.
The Returned has been a huge hit in France where it is known as Les Revenants and became the highest-rated original drama of all time on CANAL+. In the UK, the series described as "Best drama of the year" by The Sunday Times, became the highest rated subtitled drama in the UK since 2006, attracting an average audience of 1.8 million viewers in its prime time slot on Channel 4.
The Returned has already sold in over 30 territories including the USA (Sundance Channel, Music Box), UK (Channel 4, Universal Pictures), Canada (Bell Media, Radio-Canada, tou.tv), Australia (SBS), Sweden (SVT), Israël (Hot), Turkey (Sinema TV), New Zealand (Rialto), Hungary (Viasat) and Iceland (Ruv).

Italy signs up for Being Human (Touchpaper) and Annika Bengtzon (Yellow Bird)
Rai 4 has acquired the fifth season of Being Human, the multi-award winning supernatural drama series following the lives of three twenty-somethings and their secret double-lives as a werewolf, a vampire and a ghost series produced by Touchpaper.
The supernatural series was recently sold in a raft of new territories including France (France 4, Lagardère Active, Orange), Germany (Tele München), Italy (NBC Universal), Israel (Hot Vision), Ex CEI (CJSC Now), China, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
Meanwhile, Foxtel Italia took on the 6x90' Annika Bengzton series produced by Yellow Bird based on Liza Marklund's best-selling novels. The series sold in over 70 territories including Italy (Fox Italia), the USA (Malabar and MHZ), France and Fench-speaking Africa (Universal), Australia and New Zealand (Rialto), Japan (Paradiso), Israël (Hotvision), Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic (AXN Central Europe, pay-tv), Canada (Radio Canada), Belgium, Netherland and Luxembourg (Lumière), Middle East (Al Nahar TV), Former Yugoslavia republics (MCF Megacom Film), Switzerland (Frenetic), CEI (Cjsc Now) and South Korea (Cinema World).
Ambitious award-winning drama and international co-production presales
This Mipcom sees the beginning of the presales for Occupied, the gripping political thriller created by bestselling crime novelist Jo Nesbø, produced by Yellow Bird and GTV for TV2 and Arte. The 10 X 45' series will be directed by Erik Skjoldbjaerg (Insomnia, Hold-up) with a 11M budget. Shooting is scheduled to debut March 2014 for a 2nd semester 2014 delivery.
Murder, Touchpaper's new collection of four 60' crime dramas for BBC Two is also making its market debut this Mipcom. The first opus of the collection directed by critically acclaimed Birger Larson (The Killing) was awarded Best single drama 2013 BAFTA.
Zodiak Rights owns worldwide distribution rights to Braquo, The Returned, Being Human, Annika Bengtzon, Murder and Occupied.
