Zodiak Rights, the distribution wing of Zodiak Media, is thrilled to announce it has acquired the international distribution rights to Legend 17, the Russian smash-hit feature film directed by Nikolay Lebedev.

Legend 17, biopic of seventies ice hockey legend Valeri Kharlamov, is Russia's second-highest grossing Russian film of all time with a box-office of $30m. The record-breaking movie received no less than 6 prestigious Golden Eagle Awards during the ceremony held on Jan 29th in Moscow: Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Nina Usatova), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Vladimir Menshov), Best Film Editing, and Best Music Score.

Anne Feret, Head of Theatrical Sales Zodiak Rights comments: "The numerous action scenes in the film are gripping, and with the Olympic Games in Sochi, now is the perfect time to launch the film internationally."

Based on a true story, Legend 17 retraces the dazzling career of Valeri Kharlamov, genius hockey player of the 1970s. 1972. Ice hockey is dominated by the North American professional league, but the ever-improving track-record of the amateur Soviets starts arousing curiosity. In a dodgy attempt to ridicule them in the midst of the Cold War, the North American league offers the USSR non-pro team to play them in the World Cup.
But it's more than hockey game; it's war. Against all odds, Russian player 17 Valeri Kharlamov leads his team to a blazing victory. More than his unrivalled skills, it's his determination that made him the ice rink superstar and gave him his nickname "Legend 17". A vibrant biopic and thrilling sports film.

Legend 17 is produced by Leonid Vereschagin at Nikita Mikhalkov's Three T Productions and directed by Nikolay Lebedev. Starring Danila Kozlovsky and Oleg Menshikov.
