05/28/2015

Deals struck with SquareOne in Germany & Movistar in Spain

Zodiak Rights, the international division and distribution arm of Zodiak Media, announces today that it has pre-sold the highly anticipated drama Versailles to SquareOne Entertainment in Germany and Movistar TV in Spain.

The Canal+ Création Originale series co-produced by Capa Drama, Zodiak Fiction and Incendo, has been pre-sold to SquareOne Entertainment, one of the leading film marketing and distribution companies in Germany, to be distributed in German speaking Europe. The deal marks SquareOne's expansion into television acquisitions.

Movistar TV in Spain has also picked up the rights to Versailles to strengthen their current portfolio.

The landmark Anglo-French drama will debut in France later this year, and the first episode of the 10 x 60' English language series premiered at MIPTV in Cannes earlier this year.

Versailles takes the period genre to new dimensions, injecting a vibrant modernity into an era that put France at the epicentre of glamour, culture and fashion. The series was brought to life by a critically acclaimed creative team including showrunners Simon Mirren (Without a Trace, Criminal Minds), David Wolstencroft (Spooks, The Escape Artist), producers Claude Chelli (Braquo) and Anne Thomopoulos (Rome, The Tudors) and director Jalil Lespert (Yves Saint Laurent).

Versailles is set in a world of power, betrayal, lust, love, and declarations of war. This epic drama takes us into the most opulent period in history, where the cult of celebrity was born. The year is 1667 and King Louis XIV is a 28-year-old monarch on the cusp of greatness. A 17th century rock star and an utterly ruthless leader, he will stop at nothing to achieve his vision of creating the most beautiful palace in Europe and seizing absolute control of France and his enemies.

Zodiak Rights holds worldwide distribution rights to the series and is currently in discussions with many other markets.
